GMAT – Tips And Tricks
Jan 31st
My experience with GMAT taught me a lot of things. A. Never believe something is difficult. And B. Always believe everything is achievable. I started off with dreams of making it big in life and thanks to the good base I have what all I ever wanted in life.
For my B-School goal to materialize I had to get a good GMAT score and boy I did exactly that. With a score of over 700 plus I proved to myself that Adidas was right when they said ‘Impossible is Nothing’.
I had no GMAT guru or the option of taking expensive GMAT tutions to meet my objectives. All I had was a vision to make it big and get best GMAT test score possible. It is said that Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a perfect test to decipher the verbal, mathematical and analytical writing abilities of the person taking the GMAT test. Well after you complete the test you realize how true that is.
My approach to the GMAT exam was simple and methodical. I took a lot of time and advice from GMAT experts on the best GMAT books to consult. Once I had those sorted, I made sure I practised a lot through GMAT sample test, GMAT practice questions, online mock GMAT tests, etc.
I didn’t burn midnight oil over my GMAT prep and instead spent 6 hrs. a day of quality investment into GMAT books and other reference material.
So if you are someone who has just completed the GMAT registration process and are planning to take the GMAT test in the near future I would say make sure you stay away from the unnecessary stress that GMAT supposedly brings in to a lot of other people. Instead concentrate on a systematic approach towards your GMAT.
GMAT – The Winning Ways
Jan 30th
Before I begin, let me clarify I am no GMAT guru. I am just someone who has walked the road of GMAT and knows what it takes to come out of the GMAT test as a winner.
A lot has been said and written and talked about the famous GMAT and what it takes to get a great GMAT test schedule up and running into motion. The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT as it is known is a test designed to evaluate the verbal, mathematical and analytical writing abilities of the individual giving the GMAT test.
A top class GMAT strategy largely revolves around cracking a GMAT score of as close to 800 (the highest score) as possible. Once someone is able to do that half of the battle of getting admission to a reputed Business school is won as most of these institutes factor the GMAT test results into their scheme of things.
So if you are someone who has completed the GMAT registration process and are now wondering how to devise a winning strategy I can share some handy GMAT tips from my own experience
GMAT Books – For my GMAT prep I made sure that I had the best of GMAT books available to me. Selecting these was a critical decision.
GMAT Sample Test – As they say practice, practice and practice hard GMAT sample test can be an excellent way to gear up to the GMAT challenge.
GMAT Practice Questions – A GMAT prep will not be complete if one does not introduce GMAT practice questions as a part of their strategy. Since GMAT is a computer based adaptive test it makes sense to get accustomed to it by planning a few mock online GMAT test before your D-day.
I hope in the race to be amongst the highest GMAT scores you will not loose your individuality and not take unnecessary stress.
GMAT Strategy
Jan 29th
I am sure many of you would’ve started the new year on a resolution to excel in the GMAT exam. Be it first timers or if you are taking the GMAT again to better your previous attempts, the goal of every GMAT taker is to get glory in GMAT. Afterall it is the GMAT score that they obtain which becomes an important determinant of whether an examinee gets a shot at a leading Business School or not.
The GMAT exam fascinates me for an important reason which is that the benchmarks set are quite high. Therefore, one cannot afford to have a slip and needs to be on their toes ensuring that the GMAT prep or the GMAT strategy which they adopt is in tune with the times and helps them in sailing through this important milestone. GMAT is not for the averages and the average GMAT scores are rarely factored into by leading B-Schools across the globe. Therefore, the race to be as close as possible to the perfect score of 800, the maximum that one can obtain gets really heated up. The pressure to perfrom and excel at the same time is enormous and must be brought to check. Panic never produces results.
GMAT takers need to have an ace GMAT strategy up their sleeves which is methodical and consistent at the same time. Stress has no room here. The strategy should incorporate elements such as mastering time management skills, a schedule oriented approach, staying in tune with the latest and ensuring participation in a few mock exams prior to their D-day where one can put their GMAT preparations and time management skills in particular to test. GMAT tips from someone who has sailed in the boat can help at the same time make sure you don’t fall for the known GMAT pitfalls.
Even though GMAT is a computer adaptive test in which the difficulty level of the exam increases based on the skill levels of the examinee it is advised to get hands on popular GMAT books for reference and practising the three important sections namely Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), Quantitative Section and Verbal Section.
So as they say practice, practice and practice till you get your act right. At the same time make sure not to overburden yourself with unrealistic expectations and know when to call it an ‘Exit’ when you have not suceedeed for a long time. This is not the end of the Road. All the best folks!

GMAT is an entrance test that picks up the suitable candidates for taking admissions into business management programs in reputed B-schools located across the globe. Based on the GMAT scores and a few other measuring parameters set by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council), candidates get admissions in reputed schools like the ones located in the USA and Canada. Hence, before preparing one’s mind to write GMAT, one must be adorned with a good strategy first. In this article, I am going to pen something on the strategies one should adopt to crack the GMAT Reading Comprehension section.
GMAT reading comprehension passages which are basically long and obscure ask questions from three academic disciplines like Science, Social Science and Business; they test a candidate’s ability to find answers in the lines, his ability to understand the central theme of the passage with the help of inferences and his capacity to infer the information from the complex sentence structures etc. Apart from this, the passage presents four types of important questions based on Fact, Inference, Main Idea and Tone. Out of the three passages, Science passages are a little easier in the sense they are factual in nature. Social Science passages are interesting to read but don’t present facts directly. Hence, here, a candidate has to draw conclusion from the supported ideas presented in the passage. Questions based on Main idea test a candidate’s understanding of the overall theme of the passage and a bit hard to answer. In tone based questions, the candidate has to identify the tone and the intention of the author by drawing inference from the passage.
All information from each paragraph should be jotted down on scrap papers initially which will, later, help a candidate remember them while answering the questions. In Reading Comprehension questions, the test-makers intend to confuse candidates by presenting same answer choices with a slight difference in meaning. Hence, one must try to compare the information presented in the choices with that of the passages and then arrive at the answer. Second, a candidate should read the first question of the passage before going through it to get an idea about the type of information he exactly needs in the passage. However, one must put oneself in the author’s shoes and ask a series of questions to oneself like What is the main idea of the passage? What theme does the author want to present? What does the author want the readers to do in the passages? etc. which, in turn, help him find the clear idea. One may take up as many GMAT practice tests as possible to optimize one’s score.
Manhattan Review, a Hyderabad based test-prep company, continuously formulates strategies to help students to crack GMAT reading comprehension. With the help of its expert faculty and comprehensive study material, Manhattan Review provides excellent coaching in GMAT, GRE, SAT and TOEFL and enables thousands of students every year to get admissions in B-schools of their dreams.
All about GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a computer adaptive test which tests the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the person taking the test. Leading Business Schools (B-Schools) all over the world factor the GMAT scores the most while granting admissions to students applying for graduate programs in their respective universities. Therefore, getting a top GMAT score becomes the prime objective of the student aspiring for admissions to management programs in top B-Schools.
Basically there are three main sections under which the online GMAT is divided into:
* The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
* Quantitative Section
* Verbal Section
The GMAT AWA consists of two essays. First expecting the student to analyze an argument and the second an issue. 30 minutes is what is allotted for each essay. So time is of essence here. One needs to leave all the preset notions aside and reply to the questions in an objective fashion.
Next comes the GMAT quantitative section consisting of 37 multiple choice questions to be answered within the space of 75 minutes. These questions are related to problem solving and data sufficiency.
Last but not least is the all important GMAT verbal test which involves 41 multiple choice questions to be answered in 75 minutes. Sentence correction, critical reasoning and reading comprehension are the three main subjects checked through the Verbal Section.
The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) is the governing body which conducts the GMAT exams and streamlines various issues related to the same. GMAT has never been a cake walk for the many examinees who take it for the simple reason that passing the exam is not the benchmark for the GMAT takers as they target scores on the high 600s and possibly some even the perfect score which happens to be 800, the maximum possible.
I hope the above information is helpful in your efforts to ace the GMAT exam.
