GMAT is an entrance test that picks up the suitable candidates for taking admissions into business management programs in reputed B-schools located across the globe. Based on the GMAT scores and a few other measuring parameters set by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council), candidates get admissions in reputed schools like the ones located in the USA and Canada. Hence, before preparing one’s mind to write GMAT, one must be adorned with a good strategy first. In this article, I am going to pen something on the strategies one should adopt to crack the GMAT Reading Comprehension section.
GMAT reading comprehension passages which are basically long and obscure ask questions from three academic disciplines like Science, Social Science and Business; they test a candidate’s ability to find answers in the lines, his ability to understand the central theme of the passage with the help of inferences and his capacity to infer the information from the complex sentence structures etc. Apart from this, the passage presents four types of important questions based on Fact, Inference, Main Idea and Tone. Out of the three passages, Science passages are a little easier in the sense they are factual in nature. Social Science passages are interesting to read but don’t present facts directly. Hence, here, a candidate has to draw conclusion from the supported ideas presented in the passage. Questions based on Main idea test a candidate’s understanding of the overall theme of the passage and a bit hard to answer. In tone based questions, the candidate has to identify the tone and the intention of the author by drawing inference from the passage.
All information from each paragraph should be jotted down on scrap papers initially which will, later, help a candidate remember them while answering the questions. In Reading Comprehension questions, the test-makers intend to confuse candidates by presenting same answer choices with a slight difference in meaning. Hence, one must try to compare the information presented in the choices with that of the passages and then arrive at the answer. Second, a candidate should read the first question of the passage before going through it to get an idea about the type of information he exactly needs in the passage. However, one must put oneself in the author’s shoes and ask a series of questions to oneself like What is the main idea of the passage? What theme does the author want to present? What does the author want the readers to do in the passages? etc. which, in turn, help him find the clear idea. One may take up as many GMAT practice tests as possible to optimize one’s score.
Manhattan Review, a Hyderabad based test-prep company, continuously formulates strategies to help students to crack GMAT reading comprehension. With the help of its expert faculty and comprehensive study material, Manhattan Review provides excellent coaching in GMAT, GRE, SAT and TOEFL and enables thousands of students every year to get admissions in B-schools of their dreams.
All about GMAT
Jan 27th
The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a computer adaptive test which tests the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the person taking the test. Leading Business Schools (B-Schools) all over the world factor the GMAT scores the most while granting admissions to students applying for graduate programs in their respective universities. Therefore, getting a top GMAT score becomes the prime objective of the student aspiring for admissions to management programs in top B-Schools.
Basically there are three main sections under which the online GMAT is divided into:
* The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
* Quantitative Section
* Verbal Section
The GMAT AWA consists of two essays. First expecting the student to analyze an argument and the second an issue. 30 minutes is what is allotted for each essay. So time is of essence here. One needs to leave all the preset notions aside and reply to the questions in an objective fashion.
Next comes the GMAT quantitative section consisting of 37 multiple choice questions to be answered within the space of 75 minutes. These questions are related to problem solving and data sufficiency.
Last but not least is the all important GMAT verbal test which involves 41 multiple choice questions to be answered in 75 minutes. Sentence correction, critical reasoning and reading comprehension are the three main subjects checked through the Verbal Section.
The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) is the governing body which conducts the GMAT exams and streamlines various issues related to the same. GMAT has never been a cake walk for the many examinees who take it for the simple reason that passing the exam is not the benchmark for the GMAT takers as they target scores on the high 600s and possibly some even the perfect score which happens to be 800, the maximum possible.
I hope the above information is helpful in your efforts to ace the GMAT exam.

Gre Test Preparation | Gre Practice | Gre Course
Jan 25th
The GRE is an entrance test conducted for students who seek admission into the likes of the U.S. and Canadian graduate schools to pursue their master or doctoral degree. The test assesses the “mental intelligence” of a test-taker and his ability to take quick decision under time pressure. The GRE scores coupled with some other measuring parameters determine the final admission of an individual into g-schools. Thus, one must be thoroughly familiar with all the sections of the test and the difficulty level that each section presents. Hence, one must formulate a definite strategy to tackle each section of the GRE comfortably. However, this article presents strategies that each test-taker must systematically follow to score well in the analogy section of the GRE Verbal Section.
Analogy is a comparison of two words that may seem unrelated to each other but contain a definite relationship between them. The ploy of the test makers here is to trick the test-takers by presenting them such confusing pair of words and thereby gauging if the test-takers are able to find the exact relationship between the original pair and successfully identify the parallel relationship or ‘bridge’ in the answer choices . The GRE analogy questions involve many possible relationships between the word pairs like “Definition/Evidence” where one word in a pair helps to define the other word; or, one word in a pair is a defining characteristic of the other word; “Synonym/Antonym” where one word in a pair is a synonym or antonym of the other word; “Type/Kind” where one word in a pair is a type or example of the other word; “Degree/Intensity” where both words in a pair are similar in concept, but vary in intensity; “Purpose/Function” where one word in a pair describes the purpose or function of the other word; “Component/Part’ where one word in a pair represents one part of the other word, which represents a whole; or, one word is simply a component of the other; “Cause and Effect” where one word leads to or results in the other word etc.
Hence, it is of utmost important that a test –taker first recognizes the common relationship in the original pair. Then he should create a general sentence that contains the specific relationship between the stem pair; and to replace the original words of his sentence with the words in the answer choices to see if more than one answer choice expresses the same relationship. In this case, the test-taker needs to revise his original sentence to find an explicit relationship. Another important strategy is to identify the parts of speech of the word pairs correctly since different parts of speech will have secondary meanings. The parts of speech in all the pairs have to be same. However, one must beware of the homonyms which have different meanings and confuse the test takers. Last, test-takers should adopt the process of elimination. Then, after carefully observing the relationship in all answer choices, the test-taker has to eliminate those options one by one which do not contain the same relationship as in the question pair. On the basis of this the last left out choice would be the correct choice.
To help the test-takers optimize their scores, many books and CDs are coming up with strategies and practice tests. However, to do well in analogy section of the GRE, it is suggested that one follows the strategies and approaches prescribed by Manhattan Review India. Manhattan Review India, located in Hyderabad is a proven test prep company specialized in preparing strategies for the analogy section of the GRE. Coupled with certified trainers, conclusive study materials and a student friendly study atmosphere, it has been providing world class coaching to students to crack complicated tests like the GMAT, GRE, SAT, TOEFL and IELTS with ease. Graduate Management Aptitude Test or GMAT is a computer adaptive test which measures the verbal, mathematical and analytical skills of an examinee. By adaptive it is meant that the difficulty of the test is constantly changing as per the ability of the examinee. The scores obtained at the GMAT are factored the most by leading B-Schools (business schools) across the globe for entry into their respective graduate programs. The exam takers are many and therefore the battle to get into the top slots is the toughest.

Online and Traditional Business Schools in CA – A Comparison
Jan 20th
In the current job market, getting an MBA is essential to further your career in business. For potential business students in California, there are a multitude of business school options both online and offline. Before you enroll in a traditional brick-and-mortar school or an CA Online Business School, you should carefully weigh the pros and cons of each.
Pros of a Traditional Business Education
Attending CA Business Administration classes on a physical campus gives you the opportunity to network and engage with your classmates and professors on a more intimate level. It is also easier to complete group assignments and get extra help from your instructors when you can physically meet them. Besides the ease of interaction, another advantage of attending an offline business school is that a degree from a school with a physical campus carries more prestige with some employers.
Cons of a Traditional Business Education
Cost is the major drawback of attending an traditional business school. Also, day classes are an issue for people who must work while attending school. Although financial aid and evening/weekend classes are available in California, many people choose to attend online business schools instead, and thus reap the benefits of affordability and flexibility.
Pros of an Online Business Education
Online business schools provide world-class business courses on a schedule that is flexible enough to meet the needs of students who hold down part-time and full-time jobs. Tuition costs much less at an online business school, so the degree can pay for itself in a shorter period of time. Also, many online business schools do not require the GMAT for admissions, so this may be attractive to people who fear standardized tests.
Cons of an Online Business Education
Some employers who are not familiar with the high quality of online schools may not fully appreciate a degree from an online business school in California. However, when you are hired, your work will speak for itself. In recent years, as online degrees have become more common, employer attitudes have changed to be more enthusiastic about online business schools.
Similarities Between Online and Traditional Business Schools
Both online and offline business institutes have excellent instructors who are accomplished in academia as well as the business world. Many textbooks are used by online and traditional schools, and as a student, you will interact with people from all kinds of backgrounds, no matter which type of school you attend.
